Is llms.txt an official standard?
No. llms.txt is a format proposed in 2024; none of the major AI companies has officially committed to reading it, and Google has said it does not use it. Adding it takes a few minutes and does no harm, but what really matters for appearing in AI answers is that AI bots can crawl your site and that your pages answer questions clearly.
Does llms.txt replace robots.txt?
No. robots.txt defines which bots may crawl which pages; llms.txt provides a summary of your content. The two are used together.
How often should I update the file?
