Hreflang checker

On a multilingual or multi-country site, every version must reference the others correctly. Enter your page URL; we’ll open all versions and check the reciprocal links.

The hreflang tags on the page are read; reciprocal links are checked for up to 12 versions.

Hreflang rules

  • Each version must list all versions, including itself
  • Links must be reciprocal: if page A points to B, B must point back to A
  • The language code must be ISO 639-1 (tr, en), optionally with an ISO 3166-1 country code (en-GB)
  • Add x-default for visitors whose language doesn’t match
  • URLs in hreflang must return 200 and be self-canonical

Frequently asked questions

Does hreflang affect rankings?
Not directly, but it makes sure Google shows each user the right language and country version. Showing the wrong version lowers clicks and conversions.
Why is en-UK wrong?
The ISO country code for the United Kingdom is GB, so the correct form is en-GB. Google ignores invalid codes.
Where should I add hreflang?
You can add them as link tags in the page’s head section, in the HTTP header or in your XML sitemap. This tool checks the tags on the page.
